Raku
Glaze Colors
Back to Raku
Raku Glazes melt at approximately 1800 F and use metallic oxides as colorants. We use Cobalt Carbonate to get the deep blues, Copper Carbonate for the luscious greens, and Silver nitrate for the gold and silver. The black color comes from Carbon staining the bare clay of the pot. The metallic lusters you see are produced in the firing and smoking process and are made up of the metals copper, cobalt, and silver.
The firing process allows for
much variation. Each piece is an unique individual. We never
know exactly what to expect.
And to tell the truth we like it that way very much.
Here is an example of our Cobalt blue with lusters.

Here is an Example for the Silver-Gold glaze. This glaze is made with Silver Nitrate.

This is an example of our copper green glaze. The luster goes from pink to pure copper penny.
