Gwinup Gallery, handmade Raku Pottery and
Stoneware Dinnerware pottery. Michael and Michele Gwinup: Our journey with
clay started while attending Oregon College of Education in 1974. I was an
art major focusing on painting and drawing. One day I was invited to visit a
professional potter. He took me out behind his studio and showed me his kiln.
It was at full temperature, flames and black smoke pouring out of the
portholes. Something magic happened to me at that moment. Soon after Michele
and I started taking pottery classes and we were immediately hooked. Upon
graduation we moved to Bend Oregon in 1976 and with a little help from our
friends, established our pottery business,
Blue Spruce Pottery Inc.. Through the years we have experimented with many techniques. Salt firing, single firing, stoneware and Raku among them. Throughout all of the changes one thing has remained constant, Our love of clay. I just love to get up and get into the studio every morning. Even after 25 years there is so much to learn and discover, I’d have to live to be 200 years old to even begin to try it all Custom tile, lamps, dinnerware by Michael and
